About me.

Welcome~

I’m Jane and I use she/her/hers pronouns.

I am a second generation Korean-American, a daughter of working-class immigrants from South Korea, and raised with values and resources in my own family that felt vastly different from those around us.

Some call this experience being "third culture", since we are a combination of two, often clashing (and therefore confusing) cultures. It took me a long time of internalizing my struggles as my own fault and feeling inadequate and responded to this with masking and "chameleoning" in fear of being found out as an imposter (which I believed I was!).

Inevitably, I had to do my own internal reconciling and healing work to understand my racial identity (not being the “right” kind of American or Korean) and where it overlaps with my class upbringing and the internal pressures and confusion that inevitably brings.

MY APPROACH:

I bring a macro-level perspective to my understanding of how systemic inequalities impact individuals and their everyday lives. My style is lovingly straightforward and conversational. Above all else, I work to provide a space that is free of judgment and full of compassion.

MY MODALITIES:

I use the Polyvagal theory perspective (fight, flight, freeze responses) to understand the body, the Internal Family Systems (IFS) framework to organize the complex parts of us, and depending on the situation, we might even use Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) to target specific issues.
